Renovation

This site is undergoing a general renovation. It appears to me that what few Quaker materials I sell are not really advertised very effectively, so I'm trying to address that. It's a constant struggle to keep things current and truthful when I'm actively raising thirteen children (most of whom I admit are grown, though still need guidance; some of whom not availing themselves of guidance, granted; and finally, most of whom, by now, step, adopted, or fostered).

My first quandary is whether to go to those "free website" folks who might just be able to do this whole thing for me. I am not quite sure what the catch is, but I might do it. I have about four books on here but am considering writing a couple more: one on the life of Anthony Purver, and another a kids' primer on Quakerism. I'll keep you posted.

One of my biggest problems is that traditionally I have used the template of these blogs to show off the best of what the blogs have to offer. In this case obviously it would be my four books, and would link straight to them. A person who comes onto this site should be able to see what the site has to offer. But in recent years phones have become more common, and when I enter the site by phone, often it doesn't give me access to the template. I'm not sure why this is. But I do know that more and more people live their whole lives, and all their web browsing, by phone. If I don't address this issue I might as well let those free-website folks have a stab at it.

I'll keep you posted.

Beginner's Guide to Quakerism

Beginner's Guide to Quakerism
by Maurine Pyle, Margaret Katranides, Thomas Leverett, and Fernando Freire

Can be bought individually from Amazon:
$3.83 + postage on Amazon
$0.99 on Kindle

For meetings they are available in batches at 65c each plus postage. That means, if you want ten, send me $6.50 + $3 for postage, or whatever the current media mail rate is. Media mail takes about a week and I am not allowed to put a friendly note in there. Obviously you can save big money by ordering more at a time, but you would probably want to make sure they'll work first. Bonus: I live in Galesburg IL: If you can save money by picking them up or having me deliver, mention it. I do get to Chicago once in a while and I'm right on a highway.

This pamphlet was intended to give the average outsider a good general overview of what Quakerism is. It is, after all, a discipline to live by Truth and integrity, and to have as your community people who may feel differently about the exact role of God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the literal doctrines of mainstream Christianity. Many Quakers today do not call themselves Christian; if so, what do they have in common? This pamphlet will explain.OK I resolve to make all inquiries point here and make this site current. The price has changed and will change again but I want this site to be current.

At the moment they are $.65 each plus postage. Postage is about $5 to send 20, much less to send a single one. Inquiries can be made to me here or you can communicate directly on paypal at tlevsp @ gmail.com, no spaces.

Followers of this blog and the press will recognize this as the pamphlet, published in 2021 and printed at home by me for $0.80 each + postage. It will still be available in pamphlet form, printed more professionally, and possibly cheaper; stay posted. This Amazon version is at least available now, here from this site.

The batch from the printers is really nice, well done, but underpriced, according to him. I have told him to make me a sustainable price so that we can fix the price permanently. Also I will work on ordering more than 200 (requires more money than I can take out of the family budget) and that will lower the price further. Our goal is to keep the price as low as possible.

The batch from the printers specifically is a little more than 60 cents each. I round up to make sure I cover envelopes and gas to the post office. I do not charge for my time.

Beginner's Guide to Quakerism

That's right - it's a pamphlet, the size of a quarter sheet of paper - 20 pages, all personally printed, folded, trimmed and stapled. I have kept the price (below) down in Quaker fashion without making any deals for amount or other things. You simply pay the costs of putting it together and getting it out there.

It's kind of a labor of love to crank these out and send them out, but that's for another post. Here I'll say that the cover was intended to be black and white, but still has several versions, similar to this, and is now being printed in color. Color used add significant cost to the operation, but it no longer does. Here are the prices.

send orders to Tom Leverett, 919 No. Broad St., Galesburg, IL 61401, or use Paypal (tlevsp@gmail.com).

They are $.80 each + postage. Even if you get 100, they are $.80 each, but postage will change. Postage is
$.63 for 1-2 (first class)
$3.49 3-10 (media mail)
$4.29 11-30 (media mail)
These prices are subject to change as I find out more; all prices are for Domestic.
Use paypal or send check to given address.
